Identy.io, the leader in biometric identification and digital credential management solutions, today announced results from its latest independent evaluation by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under the Friction Ridge Image and Features Technology Evaluation (FRIF TE) Exemplar One-to-Many (E1N). The test, designed to evaluate the algorithms at the core of Automated Biometric Identification Systems (ABIS), measures how effectively fingerprint algorithms extract biometric features and search them against databases containing millions of subjects, including fingerprint types such as rolled prints, plain prints and slaps.
Identy.io’s fingerprint identification technology achieved 99.99% accuracy for slap and flat fingerprints against a gallery of three million subjects, while delivering a 2.9-second median search time at that scale. Building on its successful initial submission, the latest evaluation demonstrated a 19 percent improvement in identification error and strong performance across all tested fingerprint categories.
“Achieving a nearly perfect score when searching a multi-million-subject gallery demonstrates the accuracy, speed and scale needed in the environments where biometric identification matters most,” said Jesús Aragón, CEO and Co-Founder of Identy.io. “For national security, border control and law enforcement systems, even small identification errors or delays can have an outsized operational impact. These independent NIST results validate our ability to deliver the performance government agencies need to confidently identify the right person among millions of records.”
National identity agencies, border authorities and law enforcement organizations routinely need to compare biometric records against databases containing millions of individuals. As those databases grow, identification systems must manage several competing demands simultaneously, including minimizing false matches, maintaining high identification rates, returning results quickly and supporting fingerprint samples captured under varied operational conditions.
Identy.io addresses these challenges by combining highly accurate fingerprint matching with search performance capable of operating across multi-million-record galleries. Its performance in the NIST FRIF TE E1N evaluation demonstrates that its technology can also deliver strong results with traditional fingerprints from legacy systems, positioning Identy.io alongside leading Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) providers. Its touchless capture technology also turns standard smartphones into biometric devices, giving organizations greater flexibility to verify identities without relying on dedicated fingerprint scanners.
This evaluation demonstrates Identy.io’s focus on a core requirement for modern identity programs: biometric technology must perform not only in controlled demonstrations, but against independently defined benchmarks measuring the security, accuracy, speed and scale required for operational deployment.
