Hard Hats with Heart focuses on improving cardiovascular health specifically within the construction industry, where long hours, physical demands, and on-the-job stress put trades professionals at elevated risk for heart disease. The partnership will bring cardiovascular awareness, education, and resources directly to jobsites and Barton Malow team members across the country.
“This collaboration gives us an opportunity to do something about a risk our industry faces every day,” says Barton Malow Executive Vice Chair Sheri Maibach. “By bringing greater awareness, education, and resources directly to the people in our industry, we can make a real difference in the health of our workforce.”
While Barton Malow’s relationship with the American Heart Association spans many years, this national commitment builds on groundwork laid through prior work with the Association and Hard Hats with Heart in Michigan. Barton Malow Vice President Steve Lorenzo will continue his role as a regional leader in Detroit, joined by fellow Barton Malow team members Tyler Donnell in Orlando, Willie Harris in Richmond, Walter Jones in Nashville, and Jim Miller in Charleston. Together, the five will engage Barton Malow teams and jobsites, support Hard Hats with Heart events and fundraising, and expand heart-health education across their regions.
“The people who help build our communities often face long hours, physical demands, and stress that can take a toll on their health,” says Melissa Morales, National Field Development Lead with the American Heart Association. “We’re grateful to the Barton Malow Foundation for its national support of Hard Hats with Heart, which helps us reach construction workers where they are with lifesaving information and resources that can support their health on and off the jobsite.”
Established in 1954, the Barton Malow Foundation was founded on the belief that success carries a responsibility to positively impact others. More than 70 years later, that principle continues to guide the Foundation’s work. By combining Foundation resources with the reach of Barton Malow’s jobsites and team members, the partnership aims to improve cardiovascular health for people across the construction industry.
